MERSIN/ANKARA - Turkish southern province Mersin will be the host of the 17th Mediterranean Games on June 20-30 where in total 3,043 sportsman and sportswoman will compete against each other.
The Mediterranean Games in 2013 will be the one with the most turnout of sportspeople in the history of the games. Turkey ranks first with a number of 428 sportspeople, followed by Italy with 420 and France with 267.
The referees at the 17th Mediterranean Games will be from Italy (25), France (16) and Egypt (14), Andorra and Montenegro will send each one referee.
Vice Coordinator of the Mediterranean Games and Director of Provincial Youth Services and Sports Ibrahim Ilhami Koc told Anadolu Agency that Turkey completed the facilities for the games trouble-free.
Koc noted that before the opening ceremony on June 20 the preparation still continued and added, "we keep the details about the opening ceremony like a secret."
Koc noted they will break the record of the number of participants at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara-Italy in 2009 and explained that in Pescara 3,458 sportspeople from 23 countries participated and in Mersin about 6,000 sportspeople and technical teams from 24 countries will attend the games.
